ICCP Math Team Takes Second at the ICTM Regional Competition
On Saturday, February 25, 2017, thirty-six members of the IC Catholic Prep Math Team competed in the 1A Division at the ICTM Regional Competition at North Central College in Naperville. ICCP earned 2nd place at the Regional event, earning a total team score of 526 points. The ICCP Math Team is waiting to be notified if they qualified for the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Finals as a full team. If the team does qualify, it will be the fourth consecutive year.
In the Individual events, Harry Zhang (’19) placed 2nd and Steven Gong (‘19) placed 3rd in the Geometry Written competition. In the Pre-Calculus Written competition, Mark Zhao (‘18) placed 2nd and Robert Vitek (‘17) placed 5th.
In team competition, the Junior-Senior 8-person team of juniors, Mark Zhao, Quinn Bigane, Jack Fowler, Michael Hoffman; and seniors, Kaitlyn Grady, Matt Jordan, Liz Maloney, and Sabrina Vorne captured first place.
Two teams earned 2nd place awards. The Geometry team comprised of sophomores Harry Zhang, Steven Gong, Robbie Calles, Ryan Kenneally, Lance Pollitz, and Kelly Murray captured the 2nd spot. In addition, the Freshmen-Sophomore team made up of freshman Erin Liszka, Jack Ryan, Rachel Simonides, Tommy Sloan; and sophomores, Steven Gong, Amber Lewis, Suzy Maloney, and Kate Pierce, also placed 2nd.
Lastly, three teams earned 3rd place honors. The Pre-Calculus team made up of Mark Zhao, Robert Vitek , Matt Sutton (’17), Anna Natividad (’17), Kaitlyn Grady (’17), and Jimmy Kenneally (’17) placed 3rd overall. The Junior-Senior 2-person team of juniors, Ella Wan and Mark Zhao, also captured the 3rd spot. Additionally, The Oral Competition team of Jimmy Kenneally and Jake DeWitte (‘18) earned a 3rd place award for their efforts.
